HBC Expands Wilkes Barre Distribution Center; Creates 140 New Jobs

TORONTO, January 13, 2014 – Hudson’s Bay Company (TSX: HBC) is pleased to announce the expansion of its distribution center in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, with the addition of 140 new jobs at the facility.  The move follows HBC’s acquisition of Saks Fifth Avenue; as part of the integration process, HBC merged the receiving and processing of merchandise for its Saks Fifth Avenue stores from the Aberdeen, Maryland DC into the existing HBC, Wilkes Barre location.  This location will be the hub for all goods for Saks Fifth Avenue Stores, Lord & Taylor stores as well as all e-commerce fulfillment for Lord & Taylor.  Additionally, this location continues to be the home of the HBC Customer Contact Center.

“It is always exciting to announce job creation, and HBC is proud to bring 140 new positions to Wilkes Barre,” said Bill Tracy, EVP, Distribution and Logistics, HBC.  “With the addition of Saks Fifth Avenue and the tremendous growth of our e-commerce business, the Wilkes Barre facility is vital to us meeting customer demand; not just the fulfillment of merchandise orders, but delivering on the full customer experience people have come to expect from HBC,” he added.

As previously announced, HBC expects to achieve C$100 million of annual synergies within three years through a combination of shared services, operational efficiencies and implementing best practices across banners.  HBC is currently exploring other options that would optimize the use of the Aberdeen location.
