Toronto & Amsterdam, 25 May 2016 - Hudson’s Bay Company (“HBC”) is pleased to reveal its first four store locations in the Netherlands. As announced by the Company on 17 May 2016, HBC intends to enter the Netherlands with up to 20 new stores over the next 24 months. The expansion into the Netherlands will leverage HBC Europe’s existing infrastructure and introduce two new retail concepts to the market.

Richard Baker, Governor and Executive Chairman of HBC, stated: “We were overwhelmed by the support for HBC in the Netherlands when we announced our entry into the market last week. I’m very pleased with the team’s progress in securing our first four stores in prime retail locations. We feel good about the partnership from our landlords as well as the local municipalities, and look forward to bringing our exciting retail experiences to the Dutch customer with our plans of up to 20 stores in the next 24 months.”

The Hudson’s Bay stores will be located in the building “De Vleeshal” and Rokin 21 and 49 in Amsterdam, “De Barones” in Breda and Heuvelstraat 33 in the city centre of Tilburg. The first Saks OFF 5TH store will be located in “De Kalvertoren” at the Kalverstraat in Amsterdam.

De Vleeshal and Rokin 21 and 49, Amsterdam

The Company reached a lease agreement with IVY Group for “De Vleeshal” and Rokin 21 and 49 in Amsterdam. These three adjacent buildings will be transformed into one Hudson’s Bay experience. The store at the Rokin will have a direct access to the subway station at the Rokin. “De Vleeshal” is a monumental building at the Nes and Oudezijds Voorburgwal and is currently being refurbished, while Rokin 21 and 49 are currently being constructed. The total store will be 15,800 m2.

Mark van Ginkel from IVY Group stated:

“We are thrilled that HBC has chosen this unique location for one of its first Hudson’s Bay store in the Netherlands. We are convinced that Hudson’s Bay is the perfect concept to enhance the already lively location. The future store is part of the Rokin District project which is a redevelopment of the IVY Group of the former Fortis headquarter at the Rokin and the Nes to a mix of shops, residential and restaurants and bars.”

De Kalvertoren, Amsterdam

The Company reached long-term lease agreements with Kroonenberg Groep for “De Kalvertoren” in Amsterdam and “De Barones” in Breda. “De Kalvertoren” will be home to the country’s first Saks OFF 5TH store. It is in the city centre of Amsterdam, well located at the Kalverstraat, which is, together with Rokin, the prime high street of Amsterdam. Kroonenberg Groep is currently renovating the shopping centre to give it an open, modern and appealing look. The 4,200 m2 store will be located on two floors connected by escalators and the storefront will feature entries from the Kalverstraat and “de Kalvertoren”.

De Barones, Breda

“De Barones” shopping centre is centrally located in the shopping heart of Breda. The 16,660m2 Hudson’s Bay store will be located on five floors, with entries from “De Barones” and from the Karrestraat. Kroonenberg Groep is currently finalizing the redevelopment of “De Barones”. The shopping units on the first floor are connected to shopping units on the ground floor in this shopping centre, resulting in large units behind impressive shopfronts.

Lesley Bamberger from Kroonenberg Groep:

“We are very happy to welcome the first flagship store of Saks OFF 5TH in De Kalvertoren in Amsterdam. Kroonenberg Groep will start with the redevelopment of the Kalvertoren this summer, part of the redevelopment is transforming the shopping centre into a shopping arcade. The redevelopment will be finished in the autumn of 2017. The arrival of Hudson’s Bay in “De Barones” in Breda completes the redevelopment that we have executed.”

Heuvelstraat 33, Tilburg

This future Hudson’s Bay store will be located on the high street of Tilburg. The owner, Royalton Hill, will renovate the building before the grand opening of Hudson’s Bay. The store will be 12,400 m2.

Maarten Langeveld from Royalton Hill

“Hudson’s Bay will be a great addition to the lively city centre of Tilburg. The store is located on the main high street of Tilburg and the Pieter Vreedeplein and, before opening, we will renovate the building into a fresh and modern look to accommodate Hudson’s Bay exciting store formula in the best way possible.”
