Hudson’s Bay Company Customers and Associates donate over $200,000 in support of Canadian Red Cross Japan Earthquake & Asia Pacific Tsunami relief fund

May 5, 2011 - Hudson’s Bay Company announced today the results of its national ‘Donate Your HBC Rewards Points’ campaign in support of Japan earthquake relief efforts,  which raised over $200,000. The funds are being donated to the Canadian Red Cross to provide on-the-ground assistance, including evacuation support, shelter and first aid to those affected by the devastating earthquake and tsunami in March.

From April 10 to April 30, 2011, all Bay, Zellers and Home Outfitters locations across the country offered Canadians the opportunity to contribute to relief efforts by donating their HBC Rewards points to the Canadian Red Cross Japan Earthquake & Asia Pacific Tsunami relief fund. Contributions made by both customers and associates raised $136,597. In addition to this amount, Hudson’s Bay Company is making and additional donation of $100,000 for a total donation of $236,597.

“The support of Canadians around this cause has been tremendous,” said Richard Baker, Governor and CEO, Hudson’s Bay Company. “Thank you to all who participated in this campaign. We at the Hudson’s Bay Company are proud to match the generosity shown by our customers and our associates.”

“Our disaster relief efforts are made possible thanks to donors and we appreciate the donation of over $200,000 by the Hudson’s Bay Company,” said Conrad Sauvé secretary general and CEO of the Canadian Red Cross. “These funds will be used to directly support the Japanese Red Cross in providing emergency health, relief supplies and shelter to over 280,000 survivors.”

Customers who wish to continue supporting the Japan Earthquake & Asia Pacific Tsunami relief efforts beyond April 30, 2011 may do so by visiting www.hbcrewards.ca and registering their on-going commitment to the Canadian Red Cross through the HBC Rewards Community Program.
