HUDSON’S BAY SEEKS 1,800 NEW COLLEAGUES

AMSTERDAM, 3 March 2017 Hudson’s Bay expects to open the doors to its first department stores in the Netherlands in the third quarter of 2017. In the run-up to this, the company is launching its ‘Join the Heartbeat’ campaign to recruit 1,800 colleagues for the first ten department stores that are scheduled to open. The first new colleagues will start training at the Hudson’s Bay Academy as of 1 July.

Largest retail start-up features innovative department store concept
Hudson’s Bay is already opening its first ten department stores in the Netherlands this year. This is a remarkable feat because it marks the first time ever and anywhere in the world that a company has opened so many department stores in such a short period of time. The concept has a character and feel like no other and is specifically geared towards the Dutch market. That means that the character of Hudson’s Bay the Netherlands will be that of a start-up focused on creating the department store of the future, with popular and beautiful fashion, beauty & home brands. Guests to Hudson’s Bay will be made to feel special by staff that provide the best service – always with a smile and their own personal touch. Guests will be welcomed by a host when they enter the department store and staff will be available to offer assistance throughout the various departments. The looks and products at the departments will be combined in a surprising way, creating a department store experience like no other. The focus is not only on shopping but also on relaxing and the experience. No two days in the department store are the same. Unique, surprising and even local temporary collections are constantly on offer. This is how Hudson’s Bay creates memorable moments.

Join the Heartbeat
Hudson’s Bay is looking for 1,800 new colleagues to join it on this journey in the Netherlands. It is a unique opportunity to be a part of the largest retail start-up. The new colleagues will get the chance to share their thoughts and help build the department store of the future. Hudson’s Bay is looking for millennial-minded people with their own mentality, sense of themselves and passion. Colleagues whose hearts beat faster. Colleagues whose personal touch, time and attention to Hudson’s Bay service is a welcome surprise for visitors. Hudson’s Bay is looking for 1,800 like-minded Heartbeats who are curious, courageous  and are willing to go the extra mile to help the heart of the city beat a little bit faster.

Local Heartbeats
It is important that these new colleagues have a local connection to the cities in which Hudson’s Bay will become the beating heart. So local Heartbeats are being recruited using digital and social media in the cities where the ten department stores are opening their doors this year: Almere, Amsterdam, Breda, Den Bosch, The Hague, Leiden, Maastricht, Rotterdam, Tilburg and Zwolle. Hudson’s Bay is looking for colleagues at these department stores to fill the following positions: Store Managers, Assistant Store Managers, Hosts, Merchandise Managers, Merchandise Specialists, Sales Managers, Sales Specialists, Service Managers and Service Specialists.

Hire for attitude, train for skills
The selection of like-minded Heartbeats will focus on people with the right attitude. Retail experience is not necessary but having the right mindset is. Once selected, the colleagues start training to gain the right skills. Heartbeats can sign up at www.hudsonsbay.nl using their LinkedIn profile or by uploading their résumé. This is followed up by a number of questions. The LinkedIn profile and/or résumé and the responses to these questions are then reviewed by Hudson’s Bay recruiters. Applicants will hear within ten days whether they have been invited to take part in the next stage of the selection process. This will be an on-demand video interview and applicants will have a week to complete the procedure at a time of their choosing.

Applicants will watch videos in which Hudson’s Bay colleagues pose questions. The applicants will be able to respond to these questions easily and quickly via an app or a webcam. The responses will then be judged on both content and the manner in which they are given. Applicants who are believed to be good fit for the Hudson’s Bay profile will then be invited for a telephone interview with a Hudson’s Bay recruiter. Following this call applicants will immediately learn whether Hudson’s Bay wants to offer them a job. The first new colleagues will start training at Hudson’s Bay Academy as of 1 July.
