Lord & Taylor’s Birdcage to Partner with Non-Profit RxArt on Exclusive Artist-Designed Product Collaborations
NEW YORK, September 1, 2015 – This September, Lord & Taylor will partner with RxArt—a non-profit organization whose mission is to help children heal through the extraordinary power of visual art—to bring exclusive artist-designed product collaborations to its Birdcage concept shop on the second floor of the flagship Fifth Avenue store.
RxArt has commissioned Assume Vivid Astro Focus, the artist duo known as AVAF, to design exclusive products from accessories brands Edie Parker—the New York-based vintage-inspired handbag designer—and The Chief Trunk Company—the revival of a storied American luxury trunk and travel goods brand based in Brooklyn. The Birdcage shop will carry the specially-designed Edie Parker clutch ($1,595) alongside three Chief Trunk items; a canvas tote bag ($660), duffel ($1,320), and zipper clutch ($330), all featuring AVAF’s work.
In addition to the product collaborations, AVAF will create wallpaper to cover the Birdcage shop-in-shop’s wall and columns. The wallpaper design, in the duo’s signature bold colors, will reference the work that AVAF created for their collaborations with RxArt in pediatric healthcare facilities.
The newly designed Birdcage shop and its fall collection will be unveiled publicly on Sept. 17. To celebrate the partnership, Lord & Taylor will donate $30,000 to RxArt to support its programs, as well as five percent of all proceeds received from the sales of Birdcage products at the New York City store on the date of the unveiling.
“Birdcage is all about discovery—what’s new, what’s next. To be able to bring our customers exclusive offerings from boutique brands like Edie Parker and Chief Trunk is truly exciting,” said Stephanie Solomon, Vice President and Fashion Director for Lord & Taylor. “We’re proud to support the mission of RxArt.”
AVAF, a duo comprised of artists Eli Sudbrack and Christophe Hamaide-Pierson, with studios in New York, Sao Paulo and Paris, is known for creating dreamlike installations, and on works of all sizes, using an array of materials, from canvas and paper to site-specific murals and neon lights. Their work has been exhibited around the world, including MoMA in New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Rome, and Museu de Arte Moderna in Sao Paolo, among many others.
In addition to the Edie Parker and Chief Trunk products, the Birdcage shop will carry additional exclusive collaborations from Baron von Fancy x Baggu, Mounser x Newbark, and denim from Rialto Jean Project. Other brands appearing in the fall selection of merchandise include Betina luxury ready-to-wear, Bing Bang jewelry, Joomi Lim jewelry, Various Keytags, and Lomography cameras. The
Birdcage collection will be available on the second floor of the Fifth Avenue store and at www.lordandtaylor.com/birdcage in mid-September.
Birdcage, named after the retailer’s famed former tea room which first launched in the 1930’s, combines the thrill of artisanal finds with the convenience of shopping at a department store. The shop features jewelry, handbags, accessories, apparel, gifts and more.
