Saks Fifth Avenue Announces Fourth Annual Fabric No. 1 Award Winners

New York, New York (September 1, 2015) — Saks Fifth Avenue announces Vitale Barberis Canonico and Lanificio Fratelli Cerruti as the winners of the fourth annual Fabric No. 1 award. This prestigious prize commends the season’s finest wool fabrics for Ready-to-Wear and Made-to-Measure suits and sport coats from the world’s premiere textile mills. The two winning mills—Vitale Barberis Canonico selected for suiting, and Lanificio Fratelli Cerruti for sport coats—will be honored at a special award ceremony in partnership with Esquire on Thursday, September 17 at Saks Fifth Avenue’s New York flagship store.

“We’re thrilled to announce our fourth year of the Fabric No. 1 competition and celebrate mills with the highest quality suiting fabrics,” said Thomas Ott, SVP GMM of Men’s at Saks Fifth Avenue. “With a total of 50 international fabric brand submissions for consideration, it was a tough competition amongst the participants, but these two Italian mills stood out from the rest of the contestants for their exceptional use of materials.”

Each mill was invited to submit up to three signature cloths from their Fall/Winter collections per category. Thomas Ott led a select panel of Made-to-Measure experts from Saks Fifth Avenue, who examined and voted on the submissions.

Individually tailored to its owner by master craftsmen, each Fabric No. 1 piece will be identifiable by a custom number and label, marking it as a one-of-a-kind garment. The Fabric No. 1 program will be supported by window displays in Saks Fifth Avenue’s flagship store, a spread in the Men’s Fall Fashion Magalog, advertising in the Wall Street Journal and promotion on Saks Fifth Avenue’s social media platforms. Fabric No.1 Ready-to-Wear garments and Made-to-Measure orders will be available in limited quantities at Saks Fifth Avenue locations in New York and Chevy Chase.

Below are descriptions of this year’s esteemed Fabric No. 1 award winners:

For fall 2015, Vitale Barberis Canonico’s Super 120’s wool won all entries in suits with their Prince of Wales design. The suit is composed of contrasting black and white yarns and generates a nuanced background with a sense of movement. The colors and proportions of the patterns reveal a casual yet contemporary look while the double twisted structure ensures reliability and durability.

Lanificio Fratelli Cerruti’s fabric prevailed over all other contenders in the sport coat category. The sport coat is comprised of the best inner-Mongolian cashmere with a unique fiber length that is kept in a protected environment to enhance the fabric’s overall quality and support the working processes. The fabric evokes an artisan feel with a business edge.
